Phoenix Marathon Training
September 27th, 2009 · phoenix marathon
“What do you think about having a wingman for the entire marathon?”
And that’s how DTM committed to training with me for the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon in Phoenix, AZ on Sunday, January 17, 2010.

photo courtesy of P.F. Chang's Rock N' Roll Marathon
Fresh out of our second week of marathon training, we’re looking forward to a reprieve from the long distance runs as week three is a “rest” week and we’ll be cutting back on miles to let our legs heal.
Week three’s full schedule looks like this:
Monday – Rest
Tuesday – 3 miles
Wednesday – 4 miles
Thursday – 3 miles
Friday – Rest
Saturday – 5 miles
Sunday – Cross train (cycle or walk a bit)
Luckily, I’ve run a marathon before (Chicago 2007) so I have some knowledge on all the nuances of running a marathon… including how to stop your nipples from chaffing. That’s a big one. Especially when you run about 500 total miles over four months while you’re training to run 26.2 miles.
This is bromates first marathon and while he may lack the first-hand knowledge that I gained while finishing my first marathon in 92 degree heat in Chicago… he does not lack the intensity. That is for sure.
For all of you who might be running your first marathon or thinking about running your first marathon, be sure to check out these tips and tricks for marathon training:

Halloween Horror 2009

Written by DTM
so here goes……! this is your official challenge from DTM! we’ve all been at that peaceful backyard volleyball game with good old DTM!

the next level of DTM
The one where we learn the values of sportsmanship and see first hand how to be a good loser! i know most wouldn’t admit it, but i’ve seen first hand many of times from all of you what losing to DTM does to you! some of you will say “it’s just a game DTM calm down!” funny thing is you only say those things while your losing. when each and everyone of you are winning, you all transform into just alittle bit of the DTM that you all hate so much when losing to him!;-) trust me i for one will admit i could never lose to me with the dignity that you all have over the years;-)! at aunt loris bday party i damn near drove LB to kill himself lol! without a doubt had the same verbal an mental abuse been dished out to me while losing
………well we all know how well i take losing!;-) which is why i choose to win all the time not just for me, for everybody!;-) would one of you like to argue the fact that i’m not much more fun to be around when i’m winning? i didn’t think so! so with all of that said here is my challenge……. take this halloween party to the next level………
what level you ask? that level is different for everyone of you weather it be that feeling of god i can’t stand his voice when he gloats about winning or hating the fact that i come into each and every competition knowing i’m gonna win (aunt lori hates that one!;-) some may say it’s a disease, but i beg to differ. i love my uncanny ability to push people to try harder than normal even if it is merily for the fact that you don’t want to hear me gloat!;-)
this is a chance for eachand everyone of us to work together as a family, team, and friends. if you were so unfortunate to be placed on a team other than the winning one (superheros) i appologize. you can however simply ask for my help if you as a team see youselves inferior to me and figure your chances of winning are so small that you need my help i will gladly assist all teams towards there goal of second place!;-)
we will make up voting slips for all our guests to vote on each familys tent or scenery thinga magiga, i encourage you all to take it to another level, dig just alittle deeper……….sure it’s just for second place, but hey we can’t all be first and besides it’s kinda lonely at the top!;-)
lol mwah ah ahah……… so there it is i dare you all to beat The Superheros!;-) i’d like all teams to have a theme and ideas of there tent and costumes to me by the 21st if possible. no procrastinating!;-)
IT’S ONIKE DONKY KONG! IT’S OFFICIALLY BEEN BROUGHTIN! LET THE TRASH TALKING BEGIN!
Sincerely first place, aka the Superheros!

well we’ve been back for a few weeks now and between our ride back an these past few weeks i’ve had time to think, an ponder bout our experiences in sturgis. where do i begin? as many of you stated or assumed prior to our departure this was sure to be an adventure as always with bromates! from suicidal deer, kamikaze birds, topless titties, way too much sausage, awesome music, sick bikes, and of course the alcohol! to say sturgis was an adventure would be an understatement, but as i said we all knew it would be. the details were the surprises, atleast to me an LB.

Sturgis Motorcycle Burnout
August 11th, 2009 · Sturgis, bromates, harley, road trip
Last week at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, DTM took video of the motorcycle burnout contest at the Full Throttle Saloon… It was pretty sweet. The Harley rider smoked the sh*t out of his tire, which caused a blowout! Crowd went wild.

Apparently, a road trip isn’t compete without some sort of animal carcass hitting your bike… and now it’s complete. Complete in the fact that I almost lost my life yesterday.
It was cold out. It was raining. The clouds were dark, low and we seemed to be fighting to get through these beasts. It was all to eerie and little did I know what was about to happen next.
Out of no where comes a kamikaze heathen… a gigantic winged animal, which for it’s size, could have been mistaken for a pterodactyl swooping in to take it’s prey. The prey being me, the poor, unsuspecting, law-abiding citizen minding his own business.
When I saw it, I was terrified. Horrific memories of my brother’s previous encounter with the killer deer raced through my head. Flashing before my eyes as if Stephen King was directing another one of his horror films or writing another murderous plot. I started to shake.
I had to assess the situation and act quickly if I wanted to miss the blood-drenched talons of this beady-eyed monster whom looked as if he hadn’t had a meal in two weeks.
I dropped my shoulder and jerked the bike to the right.
He followed.
I then jerked my bike to the left.
He followed again.
Unable to evade the monster, I remember what bromate had said about his previous encounter: “When I knew there was no going around, I sped up and took the creature head-on.”
Naturally, instincts kicked in. I dropped a gear, ripped the throttle down and aimed directly into the belly of the beast. If I was going down, he was coming with me.
As he got closer, I realized he was about the size of a deck of cards and luckily he swooped too low, bounced off DTM’s head, hit the ground, kicked up and hit my foot, which lodged the tweety bird into my engine. I survived to tell another tall tale.

DTM says:
“hey everyone, well you all know me never a dull moment lol! i’m pretty much well over the excitement of deer hunting with my bike, of course i didn’t have the front row seats that LB had he might never be the same lol. anyhow all is well it rained cats an dogs on us this morning after i got my bike some what put back together, but didn’t rain any deer so that was good. we spent the day on I90 thru montana some really beautiful riding. everywhere we stopped my bike seemed to envoke some sort of conversation the leading smartass remark is “did we make steaks out of bambi?” i liked my comment to LB the best when he told me he’d get a room last night i said “good that way i can wash the sh%t off both sides of my pants!” so the question is what next?……….;-)

DTM riding into the rainbow in Wyoming

Well, John might use the tagline “you can’t stop a Deere,” but DTM and I beg to differ. In fact, I witnessed it. Moreover, DTM experienced it firsthand.
After a B-E-A-utiful drive East on HWY 12 through Washington and Idaho, which is memory lane for DTM because he used to work for a logging company in the area, we were just coming down into Lowell, ID when all of a sudden… BOOM!

HWY 12 Idaho
Apparently, deers like to jump into the light. Instead of standing still like an innocent little Bambi on the side… Bambi decided that the light was a tractor beam and he followed it directly into the front left side of DTM’s Harley.
Unfortunately, Bambi is no longer with us. But fortunately, DTM is alive and well, albeit minus a few bike parts and with a slightly tweaked foot. But like one person said when they saw the aftermath:
“You can replace parts, but you can’t replace a bromate.”
Luckily, all is well that ends well so my cheers to him over a brewski at Applebees was “Welp, here’s to being alive.” And he replied “Heres to parts!”

Ouch!

Little Sturgis Bike Rally
July 26th, 2009 · bromates
A little Sturgis bike rally started August 14, 1938 with a few race participants and fans. Celebrating it’s 69th Anniversary, “The” Sturgis Motorcycle Rally swelled to more than 750,000 party goers in 2000 and consistently brings in 400 to 500k on average.
To say it’s the largest bike rally is an understatement. To say we (DTM and LB) are extremely excited to embark on our virgin ride to Sturgis is an extreme understatement.
Sturgis invokes a particular feeling the second it leaves your mouth. People (not just hardcore bikers) love to say it. People love to talk about it. Random people, not just bikers, will come out of the blue and ask “You going to Sturgis?” just because you’re on a motorcycle.
As of this morning, we are Sturgis bound. Our first few days will be traversing 1,200 miles of open highway from Yakima, WA to Sturgis, SD. We’re staying at the Broken Spoke Campground, which features and “enormous 5,000 sq. ft. swimming pool with jacuzzis, decks, bars, music, hot bartenders, pool-side contests, lounge chairs and umbrellas. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
Will our Harley adventures of years past pale in comparison?
Will it be our best road trip yet?
We don’t know, but we’re sure the hell gonna try.
